Carbon Dioxide Capture Project

Carbon Dioxide Capture Project
The fifth climate project of RUSAL, registered in the Russian register of carbon units, is an initiative to capture carbon dioxide, which is being implemented by the Achinsk alumina plant through the introduction of wet cleaning plants.
Previously, the Company conducted research work, during which quantitative indicators of greenhouse gas emissions were analyzed, and experts confirmed the effectiveness of the technology in order to capture gases. The project has been validated and verified by experts from Innopolis University.
Absorption of greenhouse gases emitted as a result of combustion of fuel by furnaces in the sintering workshop occurs in modernized scrubber plants using slurry water, which is located in the closed water circulation system of the enterprise. After the waste gases have been treated, this water is placed on slurry maps. Thus, carbon dioxide cannot be re-released into the atmosphere.
